Message and only along the leading edge of the headlight. I would say less than 10% of the glass, and only on really really cold days, being that my car never sits outside overnight and doesn't get driven during the winter unless there is freakishly nice weather, it is a non-issue. In fact I only noticed it when I went to pick up the car after being shipped from the states, it was mid-february and there was a foot of snow on the ground and temps around 20F for a few weeks. Otherwise I had never noticed it before.

My question was really more about why use a dessicant in something that is designed to breathe? Can it be left out? On my aircraft we use a dessicant filter but it is for anti-corrosion purposes on sensitive moving parts in a sealed system. So am curious if I crack open a headlight like the original poster did, what can be done to prevent fogging in the future? Should I replace the dessicants, if what Bernie says is true, then I am thinking the dessicants are relatively minor and not worth worrying about.

I dunno. I just really dislike fucking with the fascia and all the associated fasteners, splash shields, and fender-liners, which is unavoidable if I have to go back and pull headlights out to remedy a problem with the glass fogging up. I am tired of repeating jobs for unforseen side-effects.
